Last week’s sale of Longhorns at Stoneleigh saw a top callof 3500gns paid for male and overall champion  from the pre-sale show, Stoke Inca from Natural England, Wiltshire

This three year old bull had previously been male and reserve breed champion at Bath and West this year was secured by H M Prison Services, Kirkham, Preston, Lancashire for use in their up and coming Kirklam herd.

Second best and close behind at 3400gns was the reserve male champion Wellhead Jackie a Raby Gladiator son out of Wellhead Wendy Nicky Luckett. He sold to John Mellin, Hellifield, Skipton, Yorkshire.

Third best was the third prize bull on the day, Overdale Kungfu from A Smith. This wellhead Dynamo son is out of Raincliffe Charlotte and sold to Mike Shearstone, Belvoir Ridge Holdings, Eastwell, Leicester at 3000gns.

Top call in the female section went to Northamptonshire breeder Rachel Heard with the first prize Linton Juniper bred by Phil Evans. This senior heifer is by Dunley Alligator and in calf to Treverton Jethro was also taken by Belvoir Ridge Holdings at 2450gns.  

Another first prize winner from Rachel Heard, her 18 month old bull “Treverton Kitson” by ‘Gorse Morrisman’ enjoyed a strong following and levelled at 2350gns to E A Backhouse, Leigh, Stafford.

Averages; four cows with calves £1632.75, three served heifers £1638, 12    maiden heifers £919.54, seven bulls £2430 (McCartneys with Rugby Farmers Mart).
