Demand for hardy, native cattle with an attractive show record saw a strong trade for pedigree Longhorn cattle top at 3600gns at Carlisle last weekend.

As part of a guest consignment alongside the Wellhead herd reduction, Aberdeen City Council’s Aberdeen herd’s sale leader was Aberdeen Granite, an April 2006 born bull by Fishwick Chauvinist out of a homebred cow. He sold for 3600gns to Peters Finger Farm, Launceston, Cornwall.

The second top price on the day was Aberdeen Dora, a July 2003 cow with twin calves at foot. By Fishwick Rebbrandt out of Linton Primula, she sold to B M and M P D Llewellyn, Llandeilo, Carmarthen for 3200gns having ran with Aberdeen Granite.

Topping served heifers from the Aberdeen offering was Aberdeen Grace, another Chauvinist daughter who sold to C Morgan, Henllys, Cwmbran, while Aberdeen Hester by the same sire went at 2050gns to the same buyer.

The Wellhead herd reduction offering from Nicky Luckett saw trade peak at 1700gns for the catalogue’s cover girl Wellhead Dill, a March 2003 heifer by Wellhead Peregrine out of Wellhead Tamarind. Having taken the Royal Highland Show breed championship ticket in 2005, she now joins Belvoir ridge Holdings , Pierrepont, Nottingham, for 1700gns.

Just shy of that money was the best maiden heifer Wellhead Honey. By Raby Gladiator and out of the successful show cow Wellhead Wendy, she sold to D Walker, Huby, York, for 1600gns.

Topping the Fishwick offering from Peter Close was their first lot in the ring Fishwick gelignite, by Carreg Cennen out of Fishwick Dynamite, she sold having ran with Bollin Eugene for 1450gns.
