Luings from Luing sell to 2400gns

The largest sale of Luing cows ever staged drew a massive crowd to Castle Douglas last week, when Messrs Cadzow Bros, original developers of the breed, staged a reduction sale from the herd farmed on the Island of Luing.

Leading the female trade were a trio of bids at the joint top price of 2400gns, the firs of which came for Achafolla 4K36, a March 2008-born Luing Banker daughter sold with her April-born heifer calf at foot by Luing Charlie. She sold to Messrs Crawford, Dalmally.

Second to make this money was Ballycastle 6J670, a Luing Charlie daughter out of Ballycastle 6E34. This March 2007-born cow sold with her Luing Chieftain sired polled heifer calf at foot. She was bought by J Fawcett and Co, Thornhill. And the final bid at this money was Clachan 8G33, a 2005-born Luing Crusader daughter out of Clachan 8D63. This one, sold with her heifer calf at foot by Luing Farmer sold to Mulholland Contractors, Ettrick Bridge.

In the bulls on offer the top call was a 5500gns bid for Luing Gaffer, a five year old homebred bull by Luing Admiral which was taken by Messrs Dalglish, Sanquhar. Next best was a 3200gns sale for Nunnerie Hendy an April 2006-born bull by Harehead Davy-Dee.
