Machine turns slurry into cow bedding

A new simpler, cheaper system that recycles manure, slurry, sawdust and straw to make cattle bedding is now available.

The new Eco-Bedder works by separating the liquid fraction of the slurry to produce a material with a 37-40% dry matter content, which is soft and dry enough to be used as bedding. However, it is not suitable for sand-based slurries.

Slurry handling specialist Storth Machinery has introduced two sizes of bedding maker: the SP600hd is suitable for up to 400 cows and costs £24,000 plus VAT while the larger SP800hd, suitable for up to 1,000 cows, costs £27,500 plus VAT.
