The annual spring poultry sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, saw a huge catalogue entry of 1100 poultry and waterfowl together with 250 lots of hatching eggs, and 90 lots of equipment.

 

This event is believed to be one of the biggest sales in the country attracted consignors and buyers from as afar afield as Aberdeen in the north to Shropshire in the south.

 

Leading the sale at £230 was a quartet of brown Leghorns exhibited by Georgena Heggie of Perthshire and were sold to R A Lancaster of Torver, Coniston.

Three black Orpington females offered from W and K Pimlott of Preston sold for £165, and a trio of New Hampshire Reds went for £145 shown by William Blyth of Castle Douglas. 

 

A pair of Red Breasted geese sold for £180 and were offered by J Ashcroft of Wigan, Lancashire. In the duck classes three dark Campbells sold for £90 shown by A Hamilton of Cumbernauld, Glasgow. 

 

Hatching eggs sold up to £55 for a dozen Barnevelders exhibited by local enthusiast A Timms of Appleby.
