Millars Texel sale tops at 11,000gns

The hammer went down with a top call of 11,000gns for a February 2009 born ewe at the major sale of the adult portion from the Millars Flock, at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.

A total of 81 ewes and 48 shearling gimmers from Martin and Cyril Millar’s Coleraine based pedigree Texel flock went under the hammer.
Taking the top price on the day was a Mellor Vale Masterpiece daughter VMG09786 – an ET bred ewe, this one is out of a ewe by Corrie Lancelot.  Her first lamb sold for 2,500gns.  She was bought by JC Innes & Son,s Dunscroft, Huntly, Aberdeenshire.
Thereafter, an undisclosed buyer paid 7,000gns for a Sandelford Premier by Thinacres Madrid daughter – VMG1100357 – this February 2011 born one is out of a ewe by Cambwell OBE.
Other leading prices included 4,200gns  paid by R I Henderson, Pasture House, Stocksfield on Tyne, for a February 2010 born Kelso President by Mellor Vale Officer daughter.  This one – VMG10000076 is an ET bred ewe out of a dam by Mellor Vale Masterpiece.  Her gradam is a foundation Galaxy ewe who was also a GDam to lambs sold for 4,000gns at Lanark in 2011.
4,000gns was then achieved twice – first for a February 2010 born Milnbank Principal by Millar’s Outstanding daughter, VMG1000045 which is out of a dam by Thinacres Madrid, paid by BT Goldie, Townfoot, Dumfries. 
While the second 4,000gns call was paid again by R I Henderson for a MEllor Vale Masterpiece by Castlecairn L.A. Lover daughter – VMG1000010.  This February 2008 ET bred ewe is out of a ewe by Crailloch Galaxy, which bred 20 sons to an average of more than 2,500gns.  She is half sisster to the mother or lambs sold at Lanark 2011 for 4,000gns.
