My earlier suggestion that the Mule ewe lamb trade was set to rival the pedigree scene for some crazy prices appears to be ringing true with news just in of another bumper price paid at Bentham on Saturday.
The sale of 10,527 lambs was topped by a mighty £410 bid for the second prize pen from Messrs Allan and Watson, Middleton. These sold to the same partnership as bought the top priced lambs from Kirkby Stephen, Ron and Fran Wilson. And the Wilson seemed determined to keep on spending, picking up the champion pen of 10 from Gordon Rawsthorne at £400 each.
At the same sale K A Brown and Sons sold a pen for £250 and J M and A E Wallbank and Sons sold a pen for £190.
Averages; NEMSA member flocks £78.52, overall average £75.92 (Bentham and District Farmers Auction Mart Co).
