Mule ewe lambs go stratospheric at Bentham

My earlier suggestion that the Mule ewe lamb trade was set to rival the pedigree scene for some crazy prices appears to be ringing true with news just in of another bumper price paid at Bentham on Saturday.

The sale of 10,527 lambs was topped by a mighty ÂŁ410 bid for the second prize pen from Messrs Allan and Watson, Middleton. These sold to the same partnership as bought the top priced lambs from Kirkby Stephen, Ron and Fran Wilson. And the Wilson seemed determined to keep on spending, picking up the champion pen of 10 from Gordon Rawsthorne at ÂŁ400 each.

At the same sale K A Brown and Sons sold a pen for ÂŁ250 and J M and A E Wallbank and Sons sold a pen for ÂŁ190.

Averages; NEMSA member flocks ÂŁ78.52, overall average ÂŁ75.92 (Bentham and District Farmers Auction Mart Co).
