The Scottish farming industry has reacted with immense relief after foot and mouth disease tests on a sheep from Perthshire proved to be negative.

A Scottish government spokeswoman said: “Animal health agency vets have now completed their investigations into the reported sickness of a sheep at an abattoir in England and its flock that originated from Perthshire.

“Examinations have eliminated foot and mouth. However, livestock keepers should remain vigilant and report any suspicions to their local Animal Health office,” the spokeswoman said.
