POLL: Your views on badger cull news

DEFRA has announced that badger culling to control bovine TB will be postponed until next year, following a request by the NFU.

The union wote to DEFRA secretary Owen Paterson requesting the delay in culling because of concerns over whether contractors will be able to meet the required target of culling 70% of badgers in the trial areas, given a ban on cage trapping from 1 December.

The union said it was a difficult decision to make and it knew many farmers would be devastated by the news, but it felt the decision was ‘responsible and right’.
