Royal Highland Show: Texel ewe takes sheep champ for second year running

Taking the interbreed sheep championship title for the second year in a row is the two crop Texel ewe from John Forsyth, Lochlands Farm, Ayrshire. The ewe sired by Muiresk Blondi also scooped the interbreed champion at Biggar Show. Mr Forsyth who runs 100 pedigree Texel ewes under the Glenside prefix said it was the last time the ewe would be shown.

Taking the reserve title was another previous award winner at the Highland Show, a Suffolk ewe from Judith and Iain Barbour, Lockerbie of the Solwaybank flock. This is the second time the one crop ewe by the 12,000gns Rhaedar Rastafari has won at the show, picking up first place in her gimmer class last year.

Commenting on his pick, judge John Currie who farms Charolais cattle, Dorsets, Texels and some Zwarbtles from Ballymena, Co Antrim said the champion just stood out for him as a fine example of the breed. “The Texel was a very good specimen of the breed with a wonderful head and very good gigots on her and good chops. “
