Royal Welsh 2015: Texels wins sheep interbreed
Ladies were the pick of the day in the sheep ring.
Leading the interbreed lineup was Procters Farm, Clitheroe, Lancashire, with their two shear Texel ewe. Although they won the breed champion last year it is the first time they have won the interbreed title since they started showing at the Royal Welsh five years ago.
She is a daughter of the privately purchased Scholars Twenty Twelve and is out of a dam by the 50,000gns Haddo Ringleader. She lambed with a single in February and won breed champion at the Royal Highland earlier this year on her first outing.
In reserve was a shearling ewe from John Sinnett, Stockton-On-Teme, Worcestershire. It was the ewe’s first outing and Mr Sinnett said the win was completely unexpected.
“She came for company for the one we thought was going to win,” he said.
Sired by his stock tup Rhaeadr Madman, who was purchased privately, she is out of a homebred ewe.
