Royal Welsh Show 2014: Sheep interbreed
Clinching the supreme title in the sheep ring for the first time was Adrian Davies, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, with his three-shear Charollais ewe Glyncoch Lady Gaga.
She won the breed, female and continental championships previous in the week.
Sired by Artnagullion Jose, she won first prize in her class at the show last year and was reserve breed champion in 2012.
In reserve was the British Berrichon two-shear ram from GB Thomas, Pontarddulais, Swansea, who runs a flock of 200 pedigree Berrichons. His dam won the Highland Show two years ago, which spurred the purchase of the ram from Carlisle, from Mrs Barber, Scotland. She was shown by his son Rhys Beynon-Thomas.
Judge Edgar Morgan, from Erwood, Powys, who runs 800 Welsh Halfbred ewes said it was a close final, adding:
“[The Berrichon] wasn’t quite the length of the Charolais, but it was still a very good ram.”
