Scotch Mule shearlings in demand at Castle Douglas

An entry of 3841 Scotch Mule shearling ewes were in demand at Saturday’s sale at Castle Douglas where the top call of £168 was paid for the pre-sale champions from Balker Farms, Stranraer. These sold to John Jardine, Dalbeattie.

A strong run of 131 from H J Paterson, East Dykes, Strathaven, picked up a number of the leading prices, including the second top of £153, a brace of pens at £152, another two pens at £151 and two pens at £150.

Reserve champions from the pre-sale show were a pen from J and M Kerr, Craigskean, Maybole, which later sold for £145 apiece to D Bunting and Son, Midtown, Kirkbean.

Overall average for the sale was £130.09 a rise of £11.90 on last year for 754 more sold. (Wallets Marts).
