Sheep dogs to 2,500gns at annual Bentham sale

Bentham Auction Marts annual sale of working and unbroken sheep dogs saw a much better class of dogs forward this year with handlers pleased to show them off on well behaved sheep.

Top price of the day was a bid by Messrs Raine of Coach and Horses securing the purchase of Woody, a three year old registered dog for 2,500 guineas from well known handler Derek Scrimgeour. Messrs Campbell travelled from Argyle to sell Fly a two and a half year old black and white registered bitch making 2,050 guineas to Mr Atkinson of South Milford.

Other leading prices included; William Huddleston with Bill 1,900gns; Oliver Brown with Meg 1,750gns; John Bell with Mirk 1,700gns. Catching the eye towards the end of the sale was David Mackereth of Workington with two eight month old bitches, Nip and Ness which were extremely well schooled for their age making 1,400gns and 1,050 gns both to Richard Postlethwaite of Bampton.
