Lamb producers supplying Southern Counties Fresh Foods can now take advantage of increased supply chain integration and knowledge transfer by getting involved in a Lamb Improvement Group.
The Southern Counties Lamb Improvement Group aims to encourage communication across the whole of the supply chain, which will ultimately benefit all involved.
The key objective is to increase the number of lambs meeting retail specification by filtering information back to the farmer, said Sarah Long, Hilton Food Group. Adam May at Mole Valley Farmers said it could be argued the lamb industry has been left behind other sectors when it comes to supply chain integration.
“There are a lot of opportunities for sheep producers at the moment and this group provides the opportunity to look at the best way to deliver consistency and quality to the customer and deliver the benefits back to the farmer.”
