Sheep producers are being encouraged to get involved a national sheep survey to assess how the industry has evolved over the past 10 years.

The project, which is jointly funded by EBLEX and Hybu Cig Cymru (Meat Promotion Wales), will help give a better understanding of how breeds have changed and highlight the industry’s strengths and weaknesses, helping shape future research and knowledge transfer efforts.

Already 12,000 producers have completed the survey, with some interesting initial results already detected, says EBLEX livestock scientist Poppy Frater.

“Ouessant ewes and Beltex Soay crosses have been among the surprises so far, so the results are guaranteed to make interesting reading.”

The survey, which needs to be completed by the end of February, can be downloaded from www.signetfbc.co.uk or call 024 7647 8829 for a copy.
