Female Champion Romany 1 Dawn A51 H55 , sold for 3050gns web.jpg A good trade for Hereford females produced the day’s top price of 3050gns at the breed society’s show and sale at Borderway Mart.

 

Romany 1 Dawn A51 (Terminal Sire Index +25) from J R B Wilson and Sons, Kelso was the ringside favourite on a day that saw this November 2010-bred daughter of Romany 1 Asteroid take the female title and finish reserve overall champion. Out of a Crickley 1 Figurehead dam, she was reserve junior female champion at the National Poll Show and reserve female champion at Borderway Agri-Expo last year. She was taken at 3050gns by S and M Geldard, Broughton-in-Furness, Cumbria.

 

The same buyers also gave 2200gns for the heifer Romany 1 Julia D345 (Terminal Sire Index +26) – a daughter of SMH Calgary and out of a Figurehead dam.

 

Baldinnie 1 Fly 12th from Fife breeders John Cameron and Son, made 2700gns to J Kingan  Troqueer, Dumfries. From the herd’s successful Fly family, this heifer is by Baldinnie 1 Orient and out of a Leos Pride 1 Vanquish dam. She has a Terminal Sire Index of +28.

 

The Wilson’s Romany 1 Mink D1 H48 (Terminal Sire Index +28), a heifer by SMH Castro and out of a Glenlees Storm cow, made 2400gns to Thomas Harrison, Mickley, Northumberland.

 

Best for bulls was 2600gns given by D Neill and Son, Stranraer for John Cameron and Son’s Baldinnie 1 Cameron (below). A son of Baldinnie 1 Orient and out of a dam by Baldinnie 1 Oxford, he is in the breed’s top 1% for eye muscle score and has a Terminal Sire Index of +33.

Heading south to Market Rasen, Lincolnshire with buyers D & J Coulson Livestock Ltd was the Wilson‘s Romany 1 Hitman A84 H4 at 2500gns. By the breed’s current Sire of the Year Baybridge 1 Atlas, he is out of a Figurehead dam and has a Terminal Sire Index of +29.

 

A 2400gns call from D Ord, Alnwick, Northumberland secured him Gilmartin 1 Joshua (Terminal Sire Index +24) from J and B Procter, Lockerbie. He is by SMH Castro and out of a Figurehead dam.
