A Simmental bull from James Arnold, son of well-known Simmental breeder Hugo Arnold (Hockenhull herd )has sold in a private deal for £10,000.
Eight month old Vale Royal Extra Special 13 is the first bull sold from Mr Arnold’s newly formed herd of four females. Extra Special is out of a four-year-old Carnkern Titan cow Curaheen Annie who was purchased privately from David Wall in Southern Ireland and is by Auroch Ace who has Hillcrest Champion and Raceview King in his pedigree. He also won the best calf born in 2013 in the Midland herd competition
Buyer was Kevin Thomas of Crowgey Herd in Cornwall. Commenting on his purchase, Mr Thomas said:”Extra Special has a tremendous pedigree although the main reasons supporting my purchase is his sheer width especially across his shoulder; although bred in England he is essentially Irish and we feel that the width of some of the Irish cattle is something that we are trying to develop at Crowgey.”
