Sinderby Holsteins sell to 2150gns peak

Top price at the dispersal of the Sinderby herd of Holsteins for Philip and James Wadsworth was 2150gs, paid by W Denham, who took the second calver Sinderby Grey 764, sired by Winnoch Thunder, back to his Dentgate herd at Barnard Castle.

A Swedish Red crossbred second calver by B Jurist attracted considerable attention before the hammer fell at 1950gs to Alan Morley, Whitby. Two young cows made 1900gs to Yorkshire dairy farmers with Sinderby Fanny 380, by All Nure Bellwood Larky going to Donald Terry, Ripon, and a twin sister to the top priced cow being taken by R W Wood, Stillington.  

Among the bigger volume buyers was Wil Armitage who took 11 head for Keythorpe Farms, Tugby, Leicestershire. Autumn calving heifers made up to 1500gs with two taken at that price by L Mellor and Son, Rugeley, Stafforshire.

Calves at foot were also a flying trade making up to 880gs for a six month old by Wa-Del Hayden, sold to K.E.Robinson, Carnforth and averaging over ÂŁ750.

Averages; 92 cows & calved heifers     ÂŁ1400.90 (incl 20 heifer calves @ ÂŁ757.05), 28 served heifers ÂŁ1274.63, six maiden heifers and calves ÂŁ579.25 (Norton and Brooksbank).
