Slow sale for Shorthorns at Thirsk

The North of England Beef Shorthorn Society held it autumn sale at Thirsk Farmers Auction Market, north Yorkshire where prices reached 1120gns on a disappointing day for vendors.

The day’s best price came for Washburn Yorkie, a freshly calved roan heifer offered with her September-born heifer calf at foot. By Chapelton Peregrine, she was consigned by Otley, west Yorkshire breeders A and E M Ashby and Sons. Her calf was by the Upsall-bred sire Washburn Xyliod.

Rob Paisley from Ilkley, west Yorkshire took the first three places in the maiden heifer class with entries from his Westmoor herd. And it was Westmoor Zola that faired best selling at 1020gns. She is by Warpath of Upsall who also sired her herdmate Westmoor Zazu that realised 900gns. (Thirsk Farmers Auction Mart).
