Spirited bidding at Whitebred Shorthorn sale sees 7,000gns top

The autumn sale of Whitebred Shorthorn Cattle saw prices climb to 7,000gns at Carlisle.

 

The judge, Margaret Fergusson, Barlaes, Dalry awarded the Championship to Blackburn Twinkle, an April 2011 heifer bred and exhibited by Gordon Jackson, Blackburn, Newcastleton. Sired by Lochdochart Nemo out of a Milnholm bred cow, with Glendearg and Raeburnfoot featuring in the pedigree.

 

Twinkle attracted spirited bidding and was finally knocked down at 7,000gns. she travels to Tenby in Pembrokeshire with new breeder Mr Archer, who also invested 1,800gns for Longley Beauty 61st also an April 2011 heifer from Breed Chairman Adrian Wheelwright, Longley, Forres. Beauty is sired by Blackburn Monty out of a homebred cow.

 

Four females from Keith Laurie, Snowdon Close, Gilsland attracted much interest with the first into the ring, Corrie Diamond a May 2010 incalf heifer, sired by the homebred bull Corrie Reiver selling for 2.600gns to Messrs Murray, Sewingshields, Haydon Bridge.

 

Corrie Marilyn 27th a July 2011 heifer sired by Burnedge Knight realised 1,450gns and writing this cheque was Jim Ions, High Thorneyburn, Falstone.

 

Corrie Marilyn 26th sired by Murtholm Parky was sold at 1,400gns to new breeder Gareth Davies, Penderyn, Mid Glamorgan, who also took Corry Ruby 9th, sired by Murtholm Parky at 900gns.

 

In the bull section, a six month old calf from Messrs Kyle, Spoutbank, Walton made 1,000gns. Spoutbank Colonel, sired by Blackburn Captain he travels to Barrhill, Girvan with Mr Redman.

 

The Reserve Champion rosette was awarded to Longley Quartz, an April 2012 bull bred and exhibited by Adrian Wheelwright, sired by Blackburn Monty, Quartz failed to reach his reserve and left the ring unsold.

 

Second prize bull Parton Contender, a January 2011 bull sired by Barlaes Dictator shown by Messrs Hewson, Burgh Head Farm, Burgh By Sands failed to reach its reserve price in the ring but was later sold and finds a new home with Mr Temple at Ulpha, Broughton in Furness.

 

Included in the sale was a dispersal from Messrs Hunt, Milburn House, Bowscar, their stock bull High Creoch Gardian was purchased by Mr McMenamin and travels over the water to County Tyrone together with Cerridwen White Magic who sold with her unregisted bull calf at foot for 600gns. Cerridwen Black Magic an October 2011 heifer sired by High Creoch Gardian was purchased by a telephone bid and finds her new home with Mrs Karen Wall in Cornwall.
