A shortage of all classes of sheep saw cull ewes sell to £170/head at St Boswells yesterday, report the auctioneers. This top price was given for three Suffolks from Arnold and John Park, Drinkstone. Other Suffolks sold to £141 for Glenrath, with Texels from Elmscleugh and Drinkstone selling for £150 and others of the same breed making £149 for Wantonwalls. Blackface culls sold to a top of £86 for Bankend.
In the hoggets on offer the top price/head was £116 for Texels from the Parks, Drinkstone, while the overall average was 190.5p/kg for 2649 sold, a rise of +4.6p/kg on the week. Top price/kg was 208.8p/kg for Messrs R Lamont, Dunslaw. (John Swan Ltd).
