Monday’s summer show and sale of primestock at St Boswells drew a healthy entry of stock in all classes with the overall cattle champion coming from Robert and Jac Neil, Upper Nisbet. Their Limousin cross heifer tipped the scales at 655kg and sold for 230p/kg (£1506) to Alan Learmonth, Jedburgh.
Reserve champion was awarded to Messrs Hamilton, Bee Edge with the steer champion which weighed in at 595kg. This one sold at 240p/kg (£1428) to Messrs Forsyth and Sons.
In the show of lambs the championship went to Mr Hardy Bishop, Grey Peel, with a pen of five Texels. These weighed 43kg and sold for 255.8p/kg (£110) to Alex Smith, Raeburn Place, Edinburgh. Reserve champion was another pen of five Texels, this time from Messrs Rennie, Sydenham. These weighed 36kg and sold for 208.3p/kg (£75).
Overall the there were 213 clean cattle forward, with the 114 bullocks averaged 173.1p/kg, the 89 heifers levelled at 174.2p/kg. 10 young bulls averaged 167.8p/kg.
In the sheep the 2000 new season lambs forward averaged 161.8p/kg and 339 ewes averaged £55.54.
