Quality animals were in demand at Colchester market, with 139 cattle going under the hammer.

 

All steers averaged 146.84p/kg, all heifers 145.58 and bulls 145.12p/kg. Top price for the day was £980.67 for a heavy steer, consigned by H H Cawston and Son Ltd and selling to C Humphreys and Sons. Medium steers also topped at £857.60.

 

Heifers toped at £932.92 from Drivers farm, selling to Mr Newman. Bulls toped at £935.41 for a heavy bull. Consigned by D S Wharton he sold to M Newman.

 

Sheep saw a short entry of mixed quality in the hogget’s and ewes but lambs had a food show and saw excellent demand throughout the sale. Plenty of new season lambs saw more than £8- a head and only a small amount under £70.
