Following yesterday’s Aberdeen-Angus and Limousin previews, here’s a look at the Beef Shorthorns on offer and also the British Blues and Salers that will be forward.
Starting with the Beef Shorthorns, my first pick is Tofts Harlequin (lot 269), a Chapelton Promoter son out of Tofts Holly, a Belmore Uptown daughter. He comes with a TSI of +16 and an SRI of +14.
Then I’ve marked out Alvie Connor (lot 271), a Hurtiso Young Blood son out of Cairnsmore Your Lovely Maggie, a Fearn Scotsman daughter. He was junior champion at the Highland last year and has a TSI of +13 and an SRI of +12.
After that it is on to Tamhorn Crusader (lot 274). This is by Trunley Barley and out of Cairnsmore Whitney, a Cairnsmore Nike Sportsman daughter. He has a TSI of +17 and an SRI of +16.
Following that is Glenisla Clansman (lot 278). He is by Glenisla Zambezi and out of Glenisla Sally Broadhooks S105, a Glenisla Noble daughter. This one trades with a TSI of +15 and an impressive SRI of +22.
Next up for me is Meonhill Charlie (lot 281), a Chapelton Winsome son out of Wavendon Flossy, a Wavendon Royal Approach daughter. He has an impressive show record behind him in the south of England and Wales and comes with a significant TSI of +27 and an SRI of +24.
I’ve gone for Blelack Maestro next (lot 292), this bull is by Blelack Secret Service, sire of the Massie’s impressive bull last February and out of Blelack Myrtle, a Buffalo Lake Destroyer daughter. This bull was male champion at Turriff and has a TSI of +21 and an SRI of +16.
Then I’ve marked Chapelton Clansman (lot 296), a Cavans Yankee son out of Chapelton Duchess, a Chapelton Welcome daughter, a dam from the same family as last year’s record price setter. He has a TSI of +24 and an SRI of +18.
In the juniors I’ve marked another from Blelack, this time Blelack Messenger (lot 304). Again by Secret Service this one is out of Blelack Miranda, a full sister to the dam of lot 292. He was second at the World Forum last year and has a TSI of +12 and an SRI of +12.
The final choice for me is Captain of Upsall (lot 307), this is by Glenisla Zetor and out of Augusta Rose of Upsall, a Loch Awe Lysander daughter. He comes with consistent figures, with both his TSI and SRI being +26.
In the small selection of British Blues on offer my first pick is Tamhorn Executive (lot 484), this Ballygrange Alex son is out of Tamhorn Wee Daisy, a Cristal De Somme daughter and has a carcass yield index of +14 and a pedigree index of +15.
The only other pick for me is Croftends Elite (lot 487), an Empire D’Ochain son out of Croftends Belle, a Dafydd D’Ochain daughter. He has a carcass index of +14 and a pedigree index of +8.
I’ll openly admit to not having a great knowledge when it comes to Salers bloodlines, so it’s not too easy for me to make a selection of those on offer.
However, I fully expect Rigel Colonel Poll (lot 498) to be there or thereabouts, he’s by Rigel Othello and out of Rigel Cobweb,a Bruno daughter, and is a black polled bull, assuming the Salers trend follows that of the Limousins in recent years then he could make some money.
Aside from that pick I’m not going to commit much further, but will try and get a good look at them once I get to Stirling and report back with any that catch my eye.
