Store cattle demand more staid at Bakewell

Yesterday’s sale of store and breeding cattle at Bakewell saw a more staid and circumspect trade than in recent months, according to the auctioneers, Bagshaws. “Despite this some very satisfactory prices were received forr the 277 cattle offered.”

Leading the cows and calves was a ÂŁ2020 bid for a pedigree Limousin cow with a one month old heifer calf at foot from Messes Prime Bros, Swinscoe. In the same section a Blonde cow with a one month old bull calf at foot made ÂŁ1490 for M Nevitt, Haslington, while a Limousin cross cow with a two month old bull calf at foot realised ÂŁ1300 for J E Young, Peak Forest.

Topping the stock bulls was a close to fiver year old British Blue from B E Taylor, Ashover, at ÂŁ2800 and a Limousin from J M Bennett, Hazel Grove, made ÂŁ1950 at 15 months old.

Leading the store cattle were 10 month old British Blue cross heifers from J G Nicklinson, Newbold, at ÂŁ800, while next best were 7-8 month old Limousin cross steers from W S Hudson, Ilam, at ÂŁ780.
