Store lamb averages well up at Ashford

Store lambs met a much improved trade at Ashford on Friday with the 3220 lambs on offer levelling the day at £43.17, up some £7 on the year.

The best crossbred stores attracted prices in the £46 to £48 bracket, medium sorts around £44 and majority of smaller long term sorts £38 to £42.

A pen of purebred Texel ewe lambs topped the market at £65 from Kingswood Farmers and meat lambs sold to £52 from B Tipples, £50 from J M & H J Stuart-Smith, £49.10 from J Seward and £48.20 from K T O Axell.

Best Texel cross stores sold well up to £47.80 from Farrant Bros, £47.50 from D Bishop & Ptnrs and £47.20 from Peter Wickham Ltd while Charollais stores made up to £47.70 and £47.50 from R G & S Hayden and Mrs J M Gregory respectively, Suffolk x Mules to made £46.50 from Little Boarzell Farms and £45.50 from A A Palmar & Son.

A few pens of Southdown Crosses topped at £46.50 from Mrs S Lister and Romney wethers sold relatively well up to £44.50 from B C Ginger.
