Strong sheep trade at Tavistcok

Tavistock Livestock Centre’s special sale of ewe lambs saw a champion pen from Philip L Heard, Okehampton top trade for Mule ewe lambs at £122 for a pen for a pen of 10. Reserve champion pen went to KC and JC Heard, Okehampton with a pen of lambs bred out of Scotch Blackface Ewes which sold for £95.00 for a pen of 10.

In the Scotch classes the champion pen went to IG Mortimore, Chagford with a pen of 10 2T Ewes which realising £150.00. Reserve Champion pen went to SG Palmer nad Sons, Peter Tavy with a pen of 10 Scotch Ewe lambs later selling for £88.00

Bluefaced Leicester trade went well with Neil Cole’s champion shearling ram E5 Greenwell Farm which was sired by B8 Cottage selling for for 550gns.P1030026 Second prize was E14 Killerton for Mr Brian Dallyn which was sired by C1 Martin Grange from a well respected local breeder Mrs Helen Havill with realized 480gns.

Third prize was awarded to E17 Greenwell Farm from Neil Cole which was bred the same way as the champion sold for 380gns. Fourth prize went to Mrs Helen Havill with E7 Martin Grange which sold for 350gns.

A strong show of ram lambs gave the judge a hard task of placing the lambs, but in the end he placed 1st and reserve Champion, F6 Yelland, sired by E5 Sealhouses bred by Mr Peter Heard which unfortunately didn’t sell.

This was followed by the second prize lamb which was F1 Greenwell Farm from Neil Cole, this lamb was sired by D3 Old Hemley, a ram known for very good teeth as well as his power and colour which sold for 480gns.P1030035 The ram lamb was out of a ewe that got 3rd prize at the Royal Welsh Show for the Abberley family and was also the twin to the famous A5 Old Hemley and was purchased by Drew Coulter in Scotland.

Third prize was won by Mr Peter Heard with F7 Yelland, sired by E3 Hewgill which sold for 500gns. Fourth prize lamb was F4 Greenwell Farm again from Neil Cole, he was a very dark lamb with B8 Cottage and D3 Old Hemley blood proving to be a good mix selling for 410 gns.

The female class had a good selection of females on show and judge placed F12 Yelland from Peter Heard 1st and also female Champion selling for 134gns followed by E33 Martin Grange from Mrs Helen Havill 2nd which sadly did not sell. Third prize went to E30 Cloverfields from Neil Cole which sold for 120gns and fourth prize going to E11 Beacon Hill which did not sell.
