Top price at Friday’s sale of Sussex at Ashford was a 5500gns bid which set a new auction record for the breed. Taking this top call was Goldtone Regent 4 from Messrs Chandler and Dunn. He sold after a frantic bidding battle to Leconfield Farms, Petworth.

Next best of 3200gns was paid for the reserve champion from the pre-sale show, Trottenden Glowworm 3 from the Millson family, with this one selling to M J P and S Williams, Helstone, Cornwall.

At 2900gns was Petworth Duke 10 from Leconfield Farms, while his herdmate Petworth Duke 8 sold at 2700gns. Also at this price was a Boxted bred senior bull forward from Titsey Estate, Oxted. And making 2600gns was another Boxted bull, this time foward from breeder Les Stevens.

In the females on offer the top call was made for the champion from Les Stevens. This was March 2009 born maiden heifer Boxted Finch 76 which sold at 1575gns to Howard King, Bines Green. A Trottenden heifer from the Millsons then  sold at 1350gns.
