Swaledale ewes hit £4000 at Hawes

Swaledale ewes sold to a top of £4000 at Hawes last weekend when Messrs Skidmore, North Hanging Wells sold a ewe to F Brennand, Chapel-le-dale.

Second best of the day was a £2100 bid for the first placed shearling ewe from the pre-sale show, one from P E and K A Sowerby which sold to I Collinson, Eastgate. And following that at were a pair at £1500. The first was the second prize ewe from the show which sold to N Richardson, Buxton, while the second was a shearling ewe.

Selling at £1400 was the first prize ewe and overall champion from M J and S A Sunter which was snapped up by T Nattrass, Alston. And at the same money was a shearling ewe from J R and A Blades.

Meanwhile, a complete set of Swaledale flockbooks from 1920 to 2009 sold at £7000.
