A sale of “crowned” ewes – those of known pedigree breeding – produced a top price of £1900 when 53 head were offered at Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria.

Topping the trade was a gimmer shearling from noted breeders Geoff and Carol Marwoo, Long Green, Richmond, North Yorkshire. The gimmer stood third in its class and was bought by P and P Raine, Bowes.

The day’s leading priced older ewe, which had been scanned for triplets, also stood champion.

She was also consigned by the Marwood family and sold to Andy Fawbert, Farndale, Whitby. Collecting the reserve title was a ewe from Patrick Sowerby, Mossdale, Hawes. She was taken at £1400 by Lancashire flock owner Tom Robinson, Catlow, Slaidburn who also gave another £1400 for a ewe from the same flock.

Another £1400 call came for a ewe from Paul Hallam, West Stonesdale, Richmond. She was bought by Gordon Cartmel, Cockermouth, Cumbria.
