A £4,800 bid topped the annual sale of 68 crowned Swaledale ewes and gimmer hoggs at yesterday’s sale at Kirkby Stephen.

 

This second place shearling gimmer from P E & K A Sowerby, Mossdale sold for the top price to A Skidmore.

 

Next best at £4,500 was the reserve champion (below) from the late Wayne Winspear, Cragg View. This shearling gimmer went to P E & K A Sowerby.

 

KS Inlamb Res Champ 070312 crop web.jpgSelling for £2,700 was ewe from Messrs Sowerby, this time heading to T Brogden. Not far behind was a £2,400 call from M E Simpson for a gimmer hogg from W H Hutchinson and Sons from Redgate.

 

Next best was the champion (below), a ewe from the late Wayne Winspear, Cragg View, selling to M/s. Lightfoot for £2,300.

M W Skidmore and Son then sold a shearling gimmer for £1,500 to I Collinson and two entries went for £1,100. The first at this figure was an entry from C Nelson and Sons, Lainger House when selling to D J Kitching, the second was put forward by J H and J Bland, Crowden House and sold to J McLaughlin.
