The Sweethope Holstein herd dispersal, owned by the Lawson family from Middleton, Morpeth, sold to a top price of 2,700gns in front of a packed ring at Borderway market, Carlilse, last week.
The day’s highest price bid went to Sweethope Talintini Bluebird. This VG85 two-year-old is sired by Morwick Talintini Red and is due to calve in March, having given 444kgs in her last lactation. She sold for 2,700gns to Messrs Wainwright and Son Ltd of Seat Hill, Cumbria.
Selling for 2.400gns was another super uddered heifer by the same sire. Sweethope Talintini Joy 46 was sold giving 42kgs. This two-year old VG-86 heifer joins the herd of Messrs Sanderson of Burtholme Farm, Cumbria.
Sweethope Garrett Jackie 45 was sold for 2,050gns giving 46kgs. She also went home with Messrs Sanderson. Sired by Schillview Garrett, her dam was a VG Netherside Dynamo with almost 10,000kgs.
One of the nicest uddered cows in the sale was Sweethope Stylist Joy 34 VG85, she was bred from a one of the top families in the herd and was in calf to J-Lou Marshall Toystory (sexed). She was purchased by Messrs Kellett and Sons of White House Farm, Northumberland for 2,000gns.
One of the big attractions in the sale was the young-stock. They were in excellent condition and well grown. Topping the group of autumn calving heifers was an early daughter of Regan-ALH G Devious bred from a VG86 Spirte dam with over 12,000kgs. She sold to Messrs Young of Crummock Bank Farm, Cumbria for 1,750gns.
The young maiden heifers showed excellent potential to average £765 and topped at 1,120gns for Sweethope Toyota Vicki sired by Morningview AltaToyota. She was bred fom an Excellent dam from the much admired Balcurvie herd. This very stylish heifer was purchased by Messrs Ishmael of Gathurst Fold Farm, Lancashire.
