GleneagleGinger, consigned by Mr JB O’Kane, Garvagh, Co Londonderry, secured the topprice of 4,300gns at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s Sale of Haltered &Unhaltered Females held at Ballymena Mart, Northern Ireland, on the weekend.

Apacked sales ring marked the Society’s first sale of the year. They day realiseda solid trade with 32 out of 38 females finding homes at a clearance rate of84%.  The majority of animals were soldto local purchasers, with four animals heading for export to the Republic ofIreland.

Eightmore animals sold on the year with 32 females averaging £1,670 overall.

Thetop-priced female, Gleneagle Ginger, had attracted a lot of attention prior tothe sale, exhibiting both presence and style. This July 2011-born maiden heiferis sired by the noted French sire Rocky and is out of Aghadolgan Annmarie, aHaltcliffe Hercules daughter. She now heads to the establishing pedigree herdof T Riley, Madden, Co Armagh.

Thesame purchaser also secured the 3,100gns Heathmount Gleam consigned by MessrsMcKinney Bros, Maghera. This June 2011-born heifer is sired by Bailea Bullion,is out of the homebred dam Heathmount Vixen, and holds a Beef Value of LM+24.

MrRiley also purchased Togherdoo Game at 3,000gns, which was brought forward byMr V Keys, Dromore. This July 2011-born heifer has a Beef Value of LM+35 and issired by Elrick Atlas and is out of the dam Carmorn Ubell. With others at1,300gns and 1,000gns respectively, Mr Riley snapped up five lots in total.

Secondtop price of the day at 3,900gns went to Scotchtown Gabrielle bred by Messrs Land R Allison, Limavady. This May 2011-born heifer is an AI calf, sired byAmpertaine Commander and is out of the homebred dam, Scotchtown Angel, a RonickHawk daughter. Carrying a Beef Value of LM+30, Scotchtown Gabrielle was boughtby local pedigree breeder Mr B Finnegan, Dungannon, who runs the Finnegan Herd.

Next up Heathmount Goldilocks fromMessrs McKinney Bros, Maghera went under the hammer for 2,800gns, selling to DHarrison, Annalong.  The August2011-born female is by the Salomon son, Bailea Andre, and is out of theLonesco-sired dam, Sarkley Bethany and was sold with a Beef Value of LM+28.
