Despite the inclement weather I’m pleased to report that the Taking Stock team have made it to Perth and are set for a busy three days reporting from the bull sales. Looking at the reports of the weather at home in the south right now I’m glad we travelled up yesterday!
Suffice to say there’s a covering of snow here too which is making it a tad chilly, but with the team in place we’ll endeavour to bring you up to date coverage throughout the week.
Today see’s the judging of the Aberdeen Angus section, with the females selling later this evening. I’ve not had chance for a full lookaround yet, but the word is there a few bulls taking the eye of several breeders.
First among these is one of John Lascelles, Balmachie Keystone. This one is by The Moss Mr Eshton and out of Kim of Fourdafourie. Exceptionally well bred, Keystone carries a terminal sire index of +26. The Balmachie team also have another of the fancied entries, Balmachie Kiwi Sam, by the legendary TLA Northern Samurai and is again out of Kim of Fordafourie.
Also of note, I’m told is Ettirck Blondin from Gordon Gray, Selkirk. This one is by Halbeath Knight and out of Netherton Belle and carries a terminal sire index of +26.
Beyond these three there is of the course the Netherton string which look in good form and the Fordel bulls with their good figures. Judging has just got underway, so I’ll bring you more news and pictures as it happens……..
