Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a continuation in the strong milk trade at the annual Christmas Cracker collective sale at Taunton.

Regular consigners Roland and Simon Bugler topped the day at 2150gns twice for the second calved cow Bettiscombe Lucente Geraldine GP81 and the November calved heifer Bettiscombe Tugolo Honor with a PLI of £+154. Their superb run of 6 heifers generated the best average of the day at £2117.50.

No less than 16 of the 60 milkers sold for in excess of 2000gns. Brian Miller’s freshly calved heifer Moorshard Dixie Belle PI out of a VG85 dam sold for 2120gns. The GP83 classified Cow Lilylane Megatone Lady PI 20 out of a 12000kg dam sold for 2100gns. The four Lilylane cow and heifers sold averaged £2,034.38.

First time consigners ML Loader from Yeovil Marsh sold 9 calved heifers to average £1942.50 and topped at 2050gns for Broadleaze River Cloud.Incalf Heifers met a strong demand selling to 1520gns for Hinton Park Farms Hintonpark Stormy Eve a daughter of Yardgrove MR Stormatic that was due in January to Lilylane Freemeg. Their nine incalf heifers averaged £1516.60.

Bulling heifers sold to 800gns for four commercial daughters of Langley Blizzard consigned by Mr John Gilbert of Chard.

Younger heifers sold to 700gns for daughters of the Stourbere Herd of Messrs EG Cox & Sons of Clapton. Heifer calves reached 510gns for pedigree daughters of Moet Rembrant out of a Payhembury dam for MT Smith of Glos.

Holstein bulls reached 1350gns for Ciderhouse Gordon a Roylane Jordan son out of the Ex90 Ciderhouse Picasso Gina 10,000kg dam. David Norman’s three bulls averaged £1,242.50.
