Welsh Black autumn sale at new livestock centre

The first sale of pedigree Welsh Black Cattle at Monmouthshire Livestock Centre peaked at 1,500gns for a cow and calf outfit from Peter Jones, Blaenavon, Gwent.

Sale topper was the 2008-born cow Cennen Lili, who sold with her heifer calf at foot by Morlais Kaymyn, to E Titterton, Staffordshire.

Next at 1,300gns was Sain Ffagan’s heifer from Cardiff. She sold after the sale to MM Griffiths, Llandidloes.

Reserve overall champion and maiden heifer champion went to Marion Phillips, Abergwaun, with Dancoed Mari 4th. Sired by Rhydygarnedd Rhys 3rd and out of Brysgaga Mari 49th, she sold for 1,200gns to Kyle Davies, Tenby.

At the same money was Rowland Rees’ heifer, Brysgaga Gwenno 62nd, which sold again to E Titterton.

Next best Eleanor Davies’ first-prize heifer sold for 1,150gns to H Williams, Merthyr Tydfil.

Two heifers made 1,100gns. The first, Waundderw Josie 5th, sired by Waundderw Reggie and out of Dolhelfa Zara, from G Jones, Builth Wells, Powys, which also headed home with Kyle Davies, Tenby, Pembrokeshire.

The second, Brysgaga Menna 75th, sired by Penwernhir Seraff and from Rowland Rees, Ceredigion, shared the journey home with the top priced lot.

A January 2014  baby heifer, Maes-Y-Gelli Tina which had a first prize in the show, from Mr and Mrs G Davies Newcastle Emlyn, sold for 550gns to Mr Viv Collins, Lingoed, Abergavenny .

The champion female and overall champion, Syfni Betrys 4th, sired by Penwernhir Warrior and out of Syfni Betrys, from Gareth James, Clarbeston Road, Penfro, went unsold through the ring.
