Topping trade at 4,100gns at the annual Wexham cup show and sale at Beeston last week was the reserve champion Winton Europower, from PJ Waring and Son, Beverley, East Yorkshire.

This son of Windy-Knoll-View Power is out of the Ex 90 classified dam Cheviotview Sandy Ethel and is from nine successive dams classified excellent. He sold to L Hadfield and Sons, Buxton.


Overall quality of bulls was good, but trade was disappointing, with only half of the entries finding new homes and young and old bulls much harder to sell.


Just shy of the top price at 4,000gns was the first prize Niagra son Woodmarsh Minder out of Woodmarsh Blitz Melody 67th from M and JC Gould Ltd, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. He sold to Shutt and Mansell, Newport, Shropshire.


The Waring family scooped the double taking the championship in the pre-sale show with Winton Farbrook, who also earned them the reserve title in the coveted Wexham Cup. This Gillette Windbrook son is out of Grantchester Goldwyn Farrah 3rd and is bred from six successive generations of cows classified excellent and very good. Farrah gave 11,790kg in her last lacataion. He too headed to Buxton this time with HR Johnson and Sons.


Two bulls traded at 2,700gns. The first was Winton Rotate sired by Winton Pirate and out of Winton Allen Roxy (VG89). He sold to GW and J Mercer, Bury.


The second was the Comestar Lauthority son Woodmarsh Loxley ET out of Woodmarsh Silky lime 6th, who gave 11,474kg in her last lactation. He was purchased by Breeze Farms Ltd, Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire.


Averages: 38 bulls, £1,850.
