Tuesday’s premier Jacob Sale for England and Wales at Worcester again proved a resounding success with both females and rams topping at 760gns.

First shout at this money was for Simon Jones’s three year old Peregrine ewe having taken first and reserve female champion in the preceding show she was finally secured after a strong battle by Betty Palmer, Clitheroe, Lancashire, to join her Nettlebed flock.

Second at this money was the best of the rams sold on a selective trade. This was Dun-Mor Bert a shearling ram from Connor and Dalrymple which was reserve male champion, he was secured by W H Wilcocks, Ivybridge, Devon.

Other shearling rams sold to 480gns for Ian Smith’s Yarningale Morris, a sixth prize winner to P H and S E Powell and Son, Stanford Bridge, Worcs.  Ram Lambs peaked at a creditable 480gns for second prize winner, Hope Cadno from D W Harries’ Hope flock taken by J Strong, Elmley Castle, Evesham, Worcestershire.  

Helen Baillie’s Hyndshaw flock were in strong demand ram lambs by Hyndshaw Scott selling briskly to 380gns J R Goodliffe, Cowbridge, Glamorgan.

And V Martin’s Llwyn flock enjoyed good success in the show ring and was more than backed up with sale demand with two yearling ewes selling to 450gns and410gns having been second and fourth in the show ring and both purchased by Messrs Mowbray and Lindsay, Stewartstown, Co. Tyrone, Ireland.

The show judge, Ron King’s Gronant flock also enjoyed a close and keen following for his shearling ewes with two selling at 410gns and 400gns to S and K Carpenter, Lickhill, Stourport on Severn, Worcester.

The usual quality entry for D J Price, Pentrenant recorded strong success in the show ring and sold her female and supreme champion, a Pentrenant Hari yearling ewe at 380gns to L Jones, Erwood, Builth Wells, Powys.

Ewe lambs were closely followed and sold to a top of 380gns for a February twin from D W Harries’ Hope flock to B Stanley, Diseworth, Derby.

Averages: six flock ewes £239.57, 24 shearling ewes £216.13, 39 ewe lambs £153.84, 12 rams £327.25,     17 ram lambs £233.78 (McCartneys).
