Pre-Sale judges Robert Ford of Brindley and David Hancock of Elton awarded the prestigious Championship award at Bentham Auction’s Christmas Dairy Show to ‘Wyredale Minister Content 30’ owned and bred by Mark & Heather Atkinson of Westfield House, Quernmore. The outstanding heifer had been calved 11 days, giving 30kgs and was later purchased by the judge Robert Ford.

Xmas Dairy 2011 012.jpgMike Robinson of Kiln Hall, Kendal took the Reserve Champion award with his pedigree heifer ‘Lodgebank Calypso Hilt Kate 124’ selling for £2750 to ME Wannop & Sons Ltd of Morecambe.

1st Prize Pedigree Cow award went to Robert & Elaine Butterfield for ‘Ingleview Jaguar Queen’, a VG86 2nd calved cow giving 41kgs and selling to GW & M Coates & Son of Baildon.

Frances & David Wright of Berry Holme, Helsington were outside the prizes but their heifer ‘Berryholme Shottle Maud 3’ caught the eye of pedigree breeders Andrew & Ruth Dawson of Quernmore who secured its purchase with their bid of £2650.

Over 5 classes the 15 prize winning newly calved cattle returned a sale average of £2415 and an overall sale average for 43 warranted cows and heifers of £2166.
