The Zwartbles Sheep association’s Autumn Show and Sale at Worcester proved yet another resounding success with a “full house” of buyers present all prepared to take numbers and an almost 100% clearance achieved
Top call of the day went to the first, male and reserve overall champion Fosseway Trail Blazer a shearling ram bred by Miss P Goodwin but sold in the hands of S J Inns, Castle Hill flock. He had previously won Second at Moreton Show 2011 and Third at Royal Welsh 2012 and was secured by Mrs Heather McCurdie, Rugby, Warks at 980gns.
Rams were in great demand and the First prize Ram Lamb Berrington Wurlitzer from Heather Bleaze was closely followed and levelled at 650gns to WJ Simmons and Son, Lydney, Gloucestershire. Beeston bloodlines from Archie Smith Maxwell were hotly contested and a Ram lamb Beeston Waiter a January born quad peaked at 640gns to Alan Maiden, Droitwich, Worcester.
Third highest priced Ram lamb went to the Third prize winner Hatches William from Exmoor based breeders Holman and Mugridge. The January twin enjoyed strong competition settling at 600gns to M Forward, Talaton, Exeter, Devon.
Demand in the female section was brisk and buoyant topping at 480gns for the first, female and overall champion a Berrington Yearling Ewe from Heather Bleaze selling to D Hutchinson, Oadby, Leicester. Mr Hutchinson also purchased the third prize Shearling Ewe also from Heather Bleaze at 380gns. Fourth prize winner from Archie Smith Maxwell levelled at creditable 340gns to S Cottle, Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
Ewe Lambs also enjoyed a sound following selling to 480gns for RM Knowle’s third prize twin born lamb from the Gable West flock to A Selway, Stalbridge, Dorset. Second prize winner in the class hit the 380gns mark for a Beeston lamb from A Smith Maxwell to M Rofe, Gotherington, Cheltenham, Glos.
