Zwartbles sold to a top price of 3,000gns at the Society’s show and sale, Borderway Mart, Carlisle, last week (8 August).
Sale leader was Northumberland-based Caroline Anderson’s shearling ram Wallridge Moor Ajax, out of a homebred dam. He picked up the reserve male champion rosette in the pre-sale show. Buyer was J Porter, Lisburn, Co Antrim.
Next best at 1,550gns was the ram lamb East Middle Ben Nevis, from Charles Scott, Hawick, Scottish Borders. Sired by Orchard Tarquin he is out of a homebred ewe sired by Stewarton Rare Find. Purchaser was Skelbister Farms, Orphir, Orkney.
Two lots made 1,500gns. First of these was the supreme champion Pistyll Boomer, from GA and HM Francis, Abergorlech, Carmarthen. Sired by Castle Hill Alfred he is out of a homebred dam and sold to L Crum, Kilmarnock Ayrshire.
Next at this money was the ram lamb Wallridge Moor Blaxster, also from Mrs Anderson. Sired by Wallridge Moor Whistler he is out of a Broomhillbank daughter and went home with Croy Cunningham Farms, Killearn, Glasgow.
Mr and Mrs C Rae, Collin, Dumfries, made 1,450gns when selling their first-prize ram lamb Wallacetown Barney to Seth Elliot, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire.
Sired by Brotherton Woodcomb he is out of a Somerwood daughter.
Females sold to a high of 1,400gns twice.
First at this money was the ewe lamb Joyfield Bonnie from Mrs J Millar and Mr J McKenzie, Lockerbie, Dumfries.
Sired by Millburn Sam she was a single lamb out of the Saltur St George daughter Somerwood. Buyer was Stewart Braid, Moffat, Dumfriesshire.
At the same money was Broomfield Breeze, from Mr A Baillie and Mr T Jackson, Larkhall, Lanarkshire. This triplet born ewe lamb was sired b Broomfield Trickster and is out of a Beech Hay Black Panther sired dam. Purchaser was DA Moir, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.
