10 top new bits of kit at Agritechnica

Farm machinery gatherings don’t get much bigger and better than Germany’s Agritechnica show in Hanover.

The monster event takes place every two years and after a rest in 2012 it’s back with a vengeance.

Visitors to Agritechnica 2013 – which takes place from 12 to 16 November – will be treated to the biggest display of farm kit yet, with some 2, 700 exhibitors occupying over 41ha of indoor showrooms.

Farmers Weekly has picked out 10 interesting bits of kit to look out for.

  • Merlo Hybrid telehandler
Hybrid drive is nothing new in the automotive industry, but Merlo claims its diesel-electic telehandler will be the first of its kind in agriculture. Like the cars, at slow speeds it will have spookily quiet all-electric drive.
  • John Deere fender switches
In the latest round of fender switch one-upmanship, John Deere has added extra buttons that can shift the tractor backwards and forwards while hitching up.
  • Challenger tractor
Tracked tractor giant Challenger will be using the show to unveil its highest-hp tractor to date. The 590hp MT875E will be the first of the maker’s machines to be fitted with a V12 engine.
  • Krone laser load
Krone will be showing off a natty new laser-guided forager head that can fill a trailer without any input from the driver.
  • Deutz Fahr 11-series
Deutz Fahr will be muscling its way into the big-hp sector with its new 11-Series machines. The biggest one will top out at 440hp.
  • JCB413S
Another new loading shovel will be breaking cover on the JCB stand. The 413S will have more power, higher torque and smarter cab.
  • Lemken sprayer boom
Lemken will be demonstrating a clever new sprayer boom pivot system that has a series of shock absorbers and a 3D camera to control its movement.
  • Lindner Lintrac 90
Austrian maker Lindner will be pulling the covers off its CVT-driven Lintrac 90 tractor. It will also have a steering rear axle.
  • Claas Simulator
Farm machinery never used to be that complicated. But such is the level of computer gadgetry used these days that Claas has built an aviation-style simulator to help its operators get to grips with it.
  • Kverneland U-Drill
Kverneland plans to launch a new combination drill at the show. The first Udrill model will be a 6m trailed machine that can prepare a seed-bed, drill and press in one pass.
