Jeep has built what it claims is the fastest and most powerful SUV ever made.

The souped-up Grand Cherokee is propelled by a 707hp supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine that can fire itself from 0-60mph in a lightning 3.5secs.

Air sources for the supercharger include a cold-air scoop in the lower front fascia.

Heat-treated aluminum-alloy cylinder heads stand up to temperatures as high as 900C and the crankshaft damper has been burst tested to 13,000rpm.

All that power requires a high-torque version of Jeep’s eight-speed automatic transmission and a set of Brembo brakes should have the stopping power to halt it from a top speed of 180mph.

The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is capable of towing 3.2t and different driving modes tweak the settings to suit track, tow, snow.

Elsewhere, there are new titanium wheels with a satin chrome centre cap and yellow calipers as standard.

The cars also come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through the latest version of Fiat’s Uconnect’s 8.4-inch touchscreen radio system.

While there is no official word on the price, we can expect the Trackhawk to retail at over £60,000.
