Amazone’s new 3m and 3.5m Catros+ compact disc harrows are intended to work fast and shallow and give intensive mixing of the soil. Oversized 510mm diameter serrated discs mean they are well suited to incorporating large amounts of straw, says the company.

They are also designed for working in maize straw and stubbles, ploughing up grassland and rejuvenating fallow fields.

The compact design of the Catros+ makes for a lower power requirement, adds the company, and it is equipped as standard with a stone safety device and maintenance-free disc bearings. The individual rubber suspension units are said to give good following of ground undulations.

It can be specified with various following rollers, such as a toothed packer or cage roller. The ideal unit, reckons the firm, is a wedge ring roller which levels the soil surface and reconsolidates it in strips, meaning good soil contact within the strips and good conditions for germination.
