Farmer dies in trailer accident

A 64-year-old farmer has been crushed to death in Northamptonshire.

John Corney of Roundhouse Farm, Finedon, was run over by a trailer while working on land away from his own farm.

Northamptonshire Air Ambulance attended the scene but was unable to save Mr Corney.

Details of how the accident happened remain unclear and reports are being prepared for the coroner.

Tributes to the farmer were paid by Alison Pratt, of the NFU’s East Northamptonshire branch, who said: “The Corneys are a well-known farming family in the area and John will be missed by everyone.”

In January the Health and Safety Executive launched a safety awareness campaign for farmworkers after six people were seriously injured in farming accidents in Northamptonshire.
