Grassland and Muck 2014: Irish firm Malone shows forage wagon for smaller farmers

Irish grass kit maker Malone has been building machines at Claremorris, Co Mayo since 1999.

It’s had a big following among the home crowd for years, but it’s now picking up plenty of customers on this side of the water.

The latest machine on show at Grassland & Muck was a compact 35cu m forage wagon designed for the small to medium-sized farmer.

Called the MT35, it does away with the gadgetry of larger machines and opts for simple hydraulic operation. There are just two main sensors – one to tell the driver when to move the floor and one to tell him when it’s full.

Grass collecting is handled by a 2m pick-up that feeds into a set of 35 knives. There are four deck chains to keep the crop moving and when hooked to a 100hp tractor it should be able to chew through 25 acres/day.

The MT35 comes with twin fixed axles shod with BKT 560mm wide tyres. The price is £40,000.

Malone is looking to expand its UK operations and is on the hunt for more dealers.
