Land Rover unveils new Defender project

Land Rover has announced it will release an all-new version of its Defender model in 2015.

The manufacturer has also released the first images of the concept car – the DC100.

The startling vehicle, which looks like the love-child of an illicit liaison between a Kia Soul and a Mini, is due to appear at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

But, as the actual Defender replacement is not due to appear in showrooms for about four years, it is hard to know how much of the DC100 will appear in the final version.

“This isn’t a production-ready concept,” said Gerry McGovern, LR’s director of design, “but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century.”
