Livestock 2013: Rotogrind straw chopper can save on fuel

This US-made Rotogrind bale-chopper is now being built in Evesham for Warwickshire renewables and feeding equipment firm Enegis.

It can chop a Hesston straw bale into 75mm lengths in just three to four minutes, says the company, and process eight to 40t of feed within an hour. Feed is then transferred into a mixing wagon without any further chopping needed.

It can also deal with roots and wet haylage and can even process grain. The company claims that it increases feed intakes and boosts animal performance as well as saving wear and tear on tractors and cutting fuel use. It also reckons that a 250-cow herd could save £880-worth of fuel a month.
