Lower drift

ANGLING SYNGENTA’S potato nozzle forwards rather than backwards, as currently recommended, dramatically reduces drift in windy conditions, without compromising blight control.

“It works in much the same way as the rear wing on a Formula 1 car by forming a wall, behind which is an area of low pressure. That sucks the spray downwards,” says application specialist Tom Robinson. Blight control was also marginally better.

“Previously, the nozzle qualified for a 2* LERAP rating, allowing growers to leave just a 2m boundary from watercourses. Angling forwards has allowed us to put in to get a 3* rating,” Mr Robinson says.
